Highlights of the Collection: Cypriot Jewelery
1000 Years of Cypriot Jewellery from the Archaic, Hellenistic and Roman Periods
Ancient Cypriots seem to have loved sumptuous jewellery. In addition to the rich finds of jewellery from the island both indigenous sculpture and terracotta figures show the ancient inhabitants wearing their finery. Jewellery was not only for everyday wear, it also seems to have had ceremonial uses; for example the dressing of the goddess with jewellery seems to have been important in the cult of Aphrodite.
