It is not known what the kore jugs were used for. They are found mostly in graves, but the reasons for this association are enigmatic. Scholars have suggested that they might have been used in special cults, such as the cult of Aphrodite (AN1888.1314a was found during excavations at a temple site in Kouklia). As there is as yet no other evidence that might indicate their use, such as depictions in paintings or sculpture, and the problem remains unsolved. The spout formed by the mini-jug is characteristically quite small, indicating that the content of the jugs could only have been poured in a very measured way. A narrow pouring sprout is, however, not uncommon in Cypriot pottery. Further Information:
